Why learning how to repost on TikTok is important

Here are the top reasons why you should repost videos on TikTok:

Get more mileage out of content

Reposting TikTok videos lets you squeeze the most value out of video content.

Even if they don’t cover an evergreen topic, videos can still generate long-term user engagement with effective reposting. This allows you (or your clients) to make the most out of the resources spent on creating that video.

Save your agency’s resources

Creating video content is time-consuming—and, in some cases, expensive.

If your agency is in charge of creating TikTok videos for your client, keeping video production in full swing can stretch your team too thin. This negatively affects productivity and overall content quality.

Reposting videos is a great way to keep users engaged while your team regroups and crunches through backlogs.

Show your client’s best content to a wider audience

Repost videos to make your best TikTok content exposed to as many users as possible.

TikTok users have different schedules and usage patterns. Re-sharing a brilliant video promotes it to those who may have missed it the first time—no need to attempt producing another video that’s equally as great.

You can also share (and re-share) TikTok videos on other social media platforms, building your client’s omnipresence and reaching a wider audience.

Give your target audience fresh content from authoritative creators

TikTok’s repost feature lets you quickly share top-notch content without actually creating them.

Regularly sharing content from popular influencers also encourages their fans to follow you. This also helps you build your relationship with TikTok influencers, especially if you respond with something positive or constructive.

Take advantage of new, trending hashtags

Reuploading videos lets you experiment with viral TikTok hashtags that match your content’s topic.

It also allows you to leverage new and trending hashtags if you uploaded your video too soon.

Remember, hashtags trend on TikTok all the time. Instead of constantly conducting hashtag research, use social media management platforms that provide hashtag suggestions.

Why repost on TikTok using a social media management platform instead of the native app

The TikTok app comes with a built-in repost button—as long as the original creator of the video enables it.

While the repost feature gets the job done, reposting through third-party social media management platforms empowers your strategy with additional features.

For example, Vista Social lets you repost videos with the best hashtags, optimal posting times, and multiple social media platforms in mind.

Vista Social can also track the user engagement of your TikTok reposts. This will help you determine which version of your repost performed the best—guiding your social media content strategy moving forward.

How to repost on TikTok (other people’s content)

You don’t need third-party TikTok tools to share videos you didn’t make.

Use the repost feature straight from the TikTok app on the fly as you browse the “For You” feed.

Here’s how to do this:

1. Find a post that you like

Launch the TikTok app on your mobile device and search for something worth sharing.

The “For You” page should have plenty of relevant video content to share. Video suggestions here depend on your search and viewing activities on TikTok.

If you can’t find anything share-worthy, use the TikTok search tool and enter a hashtag, topic, or username.

Tap the magnifying glass icon at the top-right corner of the app to begin.

Enter a relevant hashtag, TikTok username, or keyword and tap ‘Search’ to view the results.

Switch between the “Users,” “Top,” and “Videos” tabs to find videos to repost.

Different pages include useful metrics to help you identify which ones are most popular.

Be sure to learn how to search on TikTok efficiently and effectively.

For example, check out related queries to find more content based on what TikTok users search for.

The “Top” search results has a “Others searched for” section that includes related queries. Use these suggestions to find more share-worthy content to repost.

Searching popular hashtags will also lead you directly to TikTok videos that generate millions of views.

Just switch to the “Hashtag” tab, pick a hashtag idea that gets millions (or billions) of views, and see truckloads of share-worthy content.

2. Use the new repost feature

TikTok’s new repost feature lets you spread content without leaving the app.

After finding a video you like, tap on it and check if it has the “Repost” button above the caption.

Take note that this new feature doesn’t take priority if other tags are present in the post, like automated captions or locations.

If the “Repost” button isn’t visible right away, tap the ‘Share’ icon in the bottom right hand corner.

Tap ‘Repost’ under the “Send to” row and move on to the next step.

If you still can’t find the yellow repost button, the original creator disabled the feature. However, you can still share the video via other means, like:

  • Other social media platforms
  • Instant messaging apps
  • TikTok video links
  • Instagram Stories
  • SMS

Note: Sometimes, the repost button won’t appear if you search for posts using hashtags. To make the repost button appear, visit the TikTok account that posted it and find the video you want to share.

You can also save the video and upload it elsewhere (just not on TikTok and misappropriate it as your own). Alternatively, use the “Duet” feature and repost the video with your reaction or response.

3. Manage your reposted videos

After reposting a video, it will appear on your followers’ feeds.

However, the current version of the TikTok app (as of writing) doesn’t have a page where you can track or manage your reposted videos.

To manage your reposted videos, find them again on the TikTok mobile app by checking your watch history.

Go to your client’s feed and tap the hamburger menu icon. From the bottom menu, tap ‘Settings and privacy.’

Find and tap ‘Watch history’ under “Content & Activity.” This reveals all of the TikTok videos you’ve watched in the past 30 days.

Once you find a reposted video, visit the creator’s TikTok account and open the video from there.

How to repost on TikTok (your own content)

To repost your client’s own content on TikTok, you need to save the video to your device and publish it again.

That’s because the TikTok repost button only works on videos uploaded by other users.

A social media publishing platform is useful if you want to reap the full benefits of the repost.

Here’s how it works:

1. Go to your client’s profile and select a video you’d like to repost

Head to your client’s TikTok profile and select a video to download.

With the video open, tap the triple-dot menu icon and then select ‘Save video.’

Once saved, you’re free to re-upload a video again with a brand new caption and set of hashtags.

This is best done through a social media management platform.

To do this, save your video in a cloud storage platform or send it over to your computer via Bluetooth, then proceed to the next step.

2. Import your video into Vista Social

Vista Social lets you schedule your TikTok repost according to your target audience’s behavior.

Head to your dashboard, select ‘Publish,’ and click ‘Publish a single post.’

To create your TikTok repost, click the video recorder icon and click ‘Add video’ below. In the pop-up menu, click ‘Upload from computer’ and locate the TikTok video you saved.

Complete the rest of your post by writing a caption and choosing your hashtags.

Remember to select your client’s TikTok profile under “Social Profiles” to the left. Consider selecting other social media accounts to maximize the reach of your TikTok repost.

3. Schedule your TikTok repost

After completing the details of your repost, select ‘Schedule’ below the preview section and click ‘Next.’

Vista Social automatically identifies the optimal posting times for your selected social channels.

This makes third-party social media management platforms significantly more effective than the TikTok repost button.

Click ‘Show optimal times’ to reveal the recommendations.

If you’re happy with the posting schedule you selected, click ‘Schedule’ to finalize your repost.

Reposting best practices: How to repost on TikTok to get more views and engagements

So, is the new repost feature beneficial for TikTok brands?

Yes—if you use the right strategies.

Scheduling and using hashtags are just the beginning.

To make the most out of your TikTok reposts, consider these reposting best practices:

1. Use Duets

Before you repost a video from someone’s profile, see if you can do a “Duet” instead.

The Duet feature lets you add an overlay or split-screen clip of your reaction or response to the original video. Both the original and your recording will play side by side at the same time.

Duets are helpful if you want to share your reaction to a popular TikTok video. They’re easy to make since you can record Duets while watching the original post.

2. Use Stitch

Unlike Duets, Stitch doesn’t combine videos that play side by side. Rather, you combine videos as different clips that play at specific parts of your video timeline.

TikTok Stitch lets you add value to the original post rather than simply reposting it. You can share your reaction, attempt to copy or replicate what’s shown in the original post, or provide additional information to help the target audience understand the first video better.

3. Create an automated posting schedule

Configure an automated posting schedule with Vista Social to consistently publish posts on TikTok (and other social media networks) at the perfect times.

When adding new posts or reposts, just add them to your queue to automatically schedule them at the next available slot. This streamlines your social media publishing strategy not just on TikTok, but on other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as well.

4. Track the performance of reposts

Reposting lets you experiment with different hashtags, captions, and posting times for TikTok marketing.

Common mistakes to avoid when reposting on TikTok

Check out the mistakes your agency and clients should avoid when reposting TikTok content.

  • Not giving proper credit to the original content creators. Give credit and attribution to the reposted video’s original creators. It can be as simple as adding their TikTok handles in the caption or by using the platform’s built-in feature to tag the content owner.
  • Ignoring copyright laws. Ensure you have the necessary permissions and licenses to repost someone else’s or the original creators’ content. Don’t run the risk of your clients and your agency potentially facing legal consequences.
  • Failing to customize the content you repost. Avoid simply reposting someone else’s content without adding your own or the client’s touch to it. Personalize the content when you can and make it relevant to each client’s brand.
  • Neglecting engagement. Engage with the comments and messages you receive when reposting TikTok videos. It helps show that your clients value their audience and consider them as friends and are open to feedback.
  • Not monitoring performance. Keep track of how each client’s reposted content performs on TikTok. It can help you understand what types of content are resonating with your clients’ audiences and inform your future content strategy.
  • Overusing reposted content. While reposting content can be a great way to engage with audiences and save time, avoid overusing it. Aim for a balance between original content and reposted content to keep your client’s feed fresh and interesting.
  • Reposting too frequently. While it’s important to stay active on TikTok, reposting too frequently can also be a mistake. Followers can become overwhelmed or annoyed with too much reposted content, so aim for a consistent but reasonable posting schedule.
  • Not being authentic. TikTok users value authenticity, so ensure the content you want to repost for clients align with their brand’s values and voice. Avoid reposting content that doesn’t feel genuine or relevant to each client’s brand.
