What is the Twitter dog?

The Twitter dog corresponds with the logo of Dogecoin, the joke cryptocurrency that Elon Musk famously endorsed.

Since its addition, the Twitter dog has caused a stir in the crypto world, with Dogecoin investors driving up its value in response.

We’re not sure if the Twitter dog is a permanent update or just a temporary one, but it has definitely caught the attention of many social media users.

Why is Dogecoin suing Elon Musk?

Dogecoin investors have filed a class-action lawsuit against Elon Musk, Tesla, and SpaceX for allegedly operating an illegal racketeering enterprise to inflate the price of the cryptocurrency.

Musk has frequently tweeted about the dog-themed cryptocurrency, which often caused the price of the token to spike.

The plaintiff in this suit seems to use those tweets and Musk’s own references to himself as the “Dogefather” as proof.

The complaint calls for triple the damages of $86 billion, which is the amount the plaintiff alleges has been lost by Dogecoin investors since Musk first started tweeting about it.

Musk’s legal team recently filed a motion to dismiss the case, which was submitted just days before the doge logo appeared on Twitter’s homepage.

A brief timeline of Elon Musk and Dogecoin:

  • 2013: Dogecoin was launched by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, combining Bitcoin and the popular doge meme.
  • 2013: Reddit helped Dogecoin develop its own subculture.
  • 2019: Elon Musk first tweeted about Dogecoin, calling it his favorite cryptocurrency.
  • 2021: Dogecoin surged to an all-time high of 69 cents ahead of Musk’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”
  • 2021: Dogecoin dropped 36% the morning after Musk’s appearance on SNL where he posed as a financial expert attempting to explain the mania around Dogecoin.
  • 2021: Musk promised to send Dogecoin to the moon, literally. SpaceX booked a mission to the moon that would be funded entirely by Dogecoin.
  • 2021: Earlier this year, Tesla began accepting Dogecoin as payment for merchandise, and SpaceX also began accepting Dogecoin in exchange for merchandise.
  • 2021: In June, a man sued Musk, Tesla, and SpaceX for promoting Dogecoin, alleging that they operated an illegal racketeering enterprise to inflate the price of the cryptocurrency.
